Interleukin-2 (IL-2) is an immuno-modulatory cytokine produced by stimulated T-cells. Akron’s industry-leading IL-2 is produced under stringent cGMP guidelines in a variety of ready-to-use configurations.
IL-2 signals through the IL-2R receptor in order to induce the proliferation of activated T cells. IL-2 also stimulates proliferation and differentiation of B cells, natural killer cells, monocytes and macrophages. Recombinant human IL-2 produced in E. coli is a non-glycosylated protein with a molecular weight of approximately 15.3 kDa. The recombinant sequence differs from native interleukin-2 in the following ways: a) the molecule has no N-terminal alanine; and b) the molecule has serine substituted for cysteine at amino acid position 125.
